About Me

Welcome World!

Hi, I’m Kayla, the woman behind this fitness, nutrition, and wellness blog!

My journey with fitness started over a decade ago when I decided I needed to make some changes in my life. By the time I turned 21 years old, I had already developed a horrible relationship with alcohol. I realized quickly that I needed to find a different outlet.

I started my fitness journey by following Shaun T’s Insanity program. It was in my garage, on a tv that had one of those built-in DVD players that my best friend brought over. That program changed my life. I developed a better relationship with my body after that program. I was the healthiest I had been in my entire life.

About a year later, I met my now husband. We spent our first year together having our dates at a gym in-between where we both lived. That was my first experience being in a gym setting. It was nothing short of intimidating. He was a personal trainer at the time and was studying Exercise Science. He helped me learn how to use machines, taught me proper form, and boosted my confidence to try new workouts.

A few years later, I was pregnant with my first child. We had a very unique situation. Early into my pregnancy, we had some complications. I was pregnant with twins and one of them lost their heartbeat. Devastated, I was told I was now considered high-risk. We were terrified. I ended up gaining 60 pounds during that pregnancy. For reference, I’m 5 feet tall. That was a large amount of weight for my small frame to carry. It was the heaviest I had ever been.

After we had our son, we spent some time in the NICU. This was when my postpartum depression started. I admitted to myself that I needed help to get out of the depression I was going through. I turned to exercise again. It took some time, but it brought me back to finding myself.

Two years pass and we found out we are having our second child. I took a completely different approach this time. I cared for my body during this pregnancy. I ate right, I exercised every day, and I remained as positive as I could be. Having this approach, I believe it saved me from having postpartum depression the second time around. After having my daughter, I made it a point to have 30 minutes a day dedicated to myself to get some exercise in.

I knew at that point that I wanted to get my Personal Training Certificate. I had such a passion for how exercise was benefitting my life at different phases. I wanted to help others learn how to use it as a tool just like I was. After I finished the program and passed my exam, I realized I didn’t have much knowledge when it came to questions about nutrition. I also didn’t have the best relationship with food either. I knew I needed to create a lifestyle around nutrition that would help me be more consistent. At this point, I knew I wanted to take it a step further.

I became a Certified Nutritionist as well as having my Personal Training Certificate. Now, I combine my love for movement with the knowledge of choosing whole foods to nourish my body. I created this blog to start sharing things that have worked for me in hopes of helping you along your journey to find balance in your life.

I will also dive into wellness tips and how important it is to love your body at all stages. Finding a balance between my movement, nutrition, and mental health has helped me thrive in my life. Now here we are. Thriving with Balance was born. I can’t wait to take you along.
